Website launch
The IRCHSS-funded Irish in Europe Virtual Research Environment (VRE) is launched at the 2011 Maynooth Library Publications Festival. The VRE provides access to over 30,000 records of Irish migrants to early modern Europe. It also offers research tools and resources to scholars and the general public.
The IRCHSS-funded Irish in Europe VRE is now live and accessible to researchers and the general public. It has been launched at the publications’ festival hosted at the John Paul II Library, NUI Maynooth. The Festival highlights research output of university members and this year features the faculty of arts, celtic studies and philosophy (NUI Maynooth) and the faculty of theology (St Patrick’s College Maynooth). Of particular interest in this year’s exhibition is the launch of a number of new digital resources, developed by university researchers and library staff. These include the local launch of Rian.ie, Ireland’s new research publications portal, and the Irish in Europe Virtual Research Environment, funded by the IRCHSS. The launch of the Irish in Europe VRE is the fruit of joint project associating the departments of history, computer science and the library, and collaborators in Trinity College Dublin, Oxford, Toulouse and Leuven universities and the Complutensian University, Madrid.
Pictured at the recent launch of the Irish in Europe VRE are Professor Tom Collins (President NUI Maynooth); Edward O'Riordan (Eclipse Internet Services NUI Maynooth); Dr Thomas O'Connor (Director Irish in Europe Project; Dr John Keating (Co-director Irish in Europe Project); Damien Gallagher (IRCHSS-funded software engineer for Irish in Europe Project).
